Serenity on the Sci?Fi Channel, Jan 3rd, 9pm EST

Being made of stars, I often look skyward.... toward Home
Yes, that's right: The BDM will be making it's Standard Cable Television Debut on the SciFi Channel this coming January. The 3rd to be exact, a Saturday, at 9pm EST.

We need to make this an EVENT, a cause for Celebration. I would like to recommend that both Individual Browncoats and Organized Browncoat Groups take the time to organize Shindigs, Home Viewing Parties, Public Screenings, Charity Events... whatever will draw people's attention to the Film.

Let's give SciFi the highest Saturday Night Ratings they've ever had! (It won't be hard; Have you SEEN the crap they usually Air on Saturdays?!? lol)

The important thing here is to let the uninitiated know it's going to be on. This is a golden opportunity to expand the Fan Base. It might also, hopefully, revive some of the enthusiasm that's been missing for awhile.

For my part, I have rented a Screening Room at The Cinemat in Bloomington Indiana for that evening. It's a video store, and the room seats 70. Any and all Area SereniFly Fans are invited to attend... for FREE! There will be snacks, popcorn, drinks and Beer for sale at the concession stand. We're talking a great time, with people who share our passion. That is an example of what could be done.

After the BDM has been broadcast, another simple thing to do would be to say Thank You. Just e-mail SciFi at feedback@scifi.com and tell them you watched, and appreciated them showing the Best Movie Ever!

Serenity on SciFi tonight! Also SciFi HD! 9 pm EST.

This is the first time Joss Whedon's Serenity has been shown on anything besides a pay cable channel.

Also the normal Sci-Fi Saturday movie crowd is going to be blown away!

So be ready online and not online. You might suddenly get a lot of what was that? What do you mean have you seen the TV series? Firefly? You know the usual.

2009
Nathan (Our Captain) Fillion in new TV series Castle on ABC starts March 9th, 2009,
in movie New in Town,
in movie Trucker and
doing voice work as Steve Trevor in animated Wonder Woman DVD.

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse starts Fox 2/13/2009 Eliza (Faith from Buffy) Dushku stars.

Summer (River) Glau returns on Fox 2/13/2009 in Terminator: The Sarah Connors Chronicles
Adam (Jayne) Baldwin returns in Chuck on NBC

Sci Fi HD is all warmed up. And my copy of Serenity Blu-Ray arrived this afternoon in the mail from Amazon.

I admit I had one seconds hesitation over which to watch and then I realized that I could watch "Serenity" Blu-Ray any time. Even right after the broadcast.

I'll tune in whenever I can sneak it. >_> Cursed family and their football watching habits!

But I may have convinced someone new to the movie and series to watch it, so maybe that'll make up for it. <_<

Am I going crazy, or did they edit out the scene where River points to the guy w/ the gun in the bank heist ??

There's no place I can be, since I found Serenity

Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 02:53

You may be going crazy, but they did edit that. Also when Jayne yelled out Mal's name and ran down into the vault. Also the introduction of Fanty and Mingo. And I'm sure there will be more. Not sure why though since it's a two hour movie running in a two and a half hour time slot. I guess they just want to run even more commercials than they usually do.

Really takes away from the comedic portion of the movie if you cut out River's face she gives Zoe, and Jayne yelling out Mal's name, right during the middle of a heist.

VERY disappointed.

Yes, they did indeed edit out a lot of the comedic quips that we all know and love. But I'm happy to see that they did nothing to the storyline itself. I was a little worried about that. All in all, it was Shiny to see it on commercial TV. This will be a good intro for newbies, and they'll be showing up online fairly soon, like Anony said, and they'll have questions

Please remember to thank skiffy at feedback@scifi.com

-And for the curious, the Shindig in Bloomington had 19 people attending.

Here's something you can't do.

Monday, January 05, 2009 - 07:09

Really shiny idea to throw a shindig as a viewing party in a video store. Great way to recruit new folk.

I got my sister to sit down for approx 15 minutes to see it (believe me that saying a lot, my sister is a human dynamo who never stops moving from sun-up to sundown) - unfortunately it was during the Miranda sequence when the crew find out about the Pax.

Anywho, she's interested in seeing the whole thing so I gonna lend her my Collector's Ed. copy so she and her husband can see the whole thing from the beginning.

I did notice it was a bit choppy to watch on commercial TV but I think it will spark some folk to rent the dvd and/or look up Serenity on the net to find out more and, you know the rest - newbies. Unfortunate that it was on so close to football playoffs. But I think we'll get some new folk coming into our 'verse.

Well I'm off to thank Skiffy!

Nice! They did better than us. Seems a bunch of our "regulars" were out of town for the holidays. So we only had 12.
But we managed to get a few new folks. Gave away some Firefly bracelets from FanDone.com and a Dr. Horrible DVD as prizes. And the food -- good lord the food!
Any way to check the ratings? I'm curious what kind of audience it garnered.
